Evacuation After Accident

Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
·               Since the amount of radiation at the boundary of the site exceeds the limits, then the plant personnel decided at about 4:17PM and reported and/or noticed the government agencies concerned to apply the clause 1 of the Article 15 of the Radiation Disaster Measure at 5PM.
·               The national government has instructed evacuation for those local residents within 10km radius of the periphery.
·               The value of radioactive material (iodine, etc) is increasing according to the monitoring car at the site (outside of the site). One of the monitoring posts is also indicating higher than normal level.
Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station
·               The national government has instructed evacuation for those local residents within 3km radius of the periphery and indoor standby for those local residents between 3km and 10km radius of the periphery.
·               The plant personnel had decided to prepare implementing measures to reduce the pressure of the reactor containment vessel (partial discharge of air containing radioactive materials) in order to fully secure safety. These measures are considered to be implemented in Units 1, 2 and 3 and accordingly, they reported and/or noticed the government agencies concerned.
Backup Supplies
·               From Shinshinano Conversion Station: 600MW
·               From Sakuma Conversion Station: 300MW
·               From Higashi Shimizu Conversion Station: 100MW

Special Instructions for Consumers During Blackout
·               Total of about 0.54 million households are out of power.
·               Because TEPCO's facilities have been seriously damaged, power shortage may occur. TEPCO appreciates customers' cooperation in reducing electricity usage by avoiding using unnecessary lighting and electrical equipment.
·               TEPCO is taking all measures to restore power, however, we expect extremely difficult situation in power supply for tomorrow as well.
·               TEPCO asks his customers to cooperate with us in reducing usage of power.

Another Devastation for Japan

There in Japan another very massive earthquake hit of 8.9~9.1 magnitude on Richter scale as reported on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 2.46pm (1646 AEDT).

Two days after the first massive quake struck just under 400km northeast of Tokyo, aftershocks were still rattling the region, including a strong 6.8 magnitude tremor on Saturday and a 6.3 quake on Sunday.

As a consequence of this gigantic 8.9 magnitude earthquake, it appears that collecting the dead and cleaning up the resulting mess may be the least of the Japanese’s worries.
